Another advantage of buying property here is that the Algarve is a fairly compact region; in fact, most places are within an hour’s drive from Faro and its international airport which is the area’s largest city and it’s main gateway. Portugal also boasts one of Europe’s best road systems, and roads are generally well maintained, well signposted and unless you are in one of the most popular destinations, often free from traffic jams. The entire area is also connected by a train line that roughly parallels the coast and as in many other popular areas of Europe, English is widely spoken and understood.

The warm climate allows you to play golf later in the season than in many other parts of Europe.
Although the Algarve is perhaps best known for its beaches, golf and climate, it’s also home to several protected coastal areas, parks and natural reserves. The Rio Formosa is one of the largest parks and bird sanctuaries, stretching for about 60km and the habitat of numerous bird species. Away from the busy coastal resorts, the Algarve is also home to picturesque fishing villages, and several historic towns, several with Roman remains.
