Travelling to faraway places is one of the most life-enriching experiences that anyone can have. However, the large cost involved can derail these types of plans. Things have slowly been changing with cheap flights and cheap accommodations becoming more widely available. Backpackers can map out journeys around the world for only a few thousand dollars. It’s an exciting new world for vagabonds. Yet this type of travel isn’t for everyone. There are some sacrifices that have to be made in order to reduce the cost. People have to be aware of them so that they can plunge into this with eyes wide open.
Cramped Seats
Airlines companies need to gain profits so the low fares have to be balanced out with a greater number of seats. More people share the cost of the flight to make them viable. This leaves very little space for each individual. Tall persons may feel severely restricted given the nearly non-existent legroom. Smaller individuals may not mind it that much, though long flights can still be uncomfortable. Passengers may try to stand up for while whenever it is safe to do so just to stretch out and get blood flowing again.
No Free Meals
One of the ways in which budget airlines are able to slash down their operating costs is through the reduction of complexities. Passengers get only the essential service which is to get from Point A to Point B safe and sound. Nice additions from luxury flag carriers such as free meals and complimentary wine will not be found here. Food and drinks are available from the crew for a fee. There are unlikely to be any entertainment packages as well so bring a good book or an excellent playlist to prevent boredom.
Off-season Travel
It is difficult to schedule a flight on the exact date that you prefer. Seat sales typically cover off-peak months and you will have to schedule your plans around them. Weekend slots get taken up quite quickly so you may have to settle for weekday flights and file a work leave to accommodate such. Sales tend to be announced well in advance of the actual flight dates. Sometimes they can be as far ahead as a year. Things can change in the meantime leading to a cancellation of a booked flight. Read up on the terms of the ticket especially refunds and rebooking so as to prevent waste.
The cheapest flight tickets can get you to your intended destinations without burning a hole in your pocket. However, they come with their own disadvantages. As long as you can accept these limitation and make your way around them then you will still enjoy your travels.
