Our history began when Jowen Campbell started on his paving driveway for himself at age 16. He was cutting Stone into Flagstones to pave driveways within his community until opening up shop with Flagstone Canada many years later! There were no machines, so everything was done by hand using chisels or rasps while wearing our dust masks. The process would take anywhere from 20-30 hours per truckload depending on the thickness of stone being cut which made it very time-consuming, but since we did not have any technology advancements back, that was all they had to do.
Flagstone uses many different ways to create Flagstone products, including Crafting, Cutting, Grinding & Polishing. They also use lasers in the polishing process that reduce dust while making sure all Flagstones are uniform in shape and size so each slab will look identical no matter what product you choose!
The laser technology was first introduced around 2005 when we decided it would be an excellent benefit for Flagstone and other fine grindings, which helped keep production costs down since there wasn’t any need to purchase expensive machinery.
