Special Mobile Units that are used in the medical field have been around for a while now but have not come to the forefront like it is today with all the modern technologies in both medical technology and the motor industry.
Much like the motor industry’s mobile home sector exploding with technological advancements so has the medical units.
Many international companies like Netcare Holdings Ltd and Doctors Without Borders have benefited greatly with these advancements as they now have the option of buying or leasing these Special Mobile Units(SMUs) and equip them with whatever is needed out in the field specifically as they desire.
To use an example is Netcare’s traveling eye clinics in the UK (when they still ran, but now are bankrupt because of the pound sterling to rand conversion rate making it unviable to operate and at break-even, because of the South African Government’s Corrupt and Indiscriminate Policies), that ran nationally across the UK especially the poorer and rural area.
They had specially converted buses made in SMUs that were equipped with every modern piece of equipment needed to run an eye clinic and day surgery and moved from area to area offering free services to the poor and needy.
Then we have Doctors Without Borders who have similar SMUs but equipped with medical equipment for emergency surgeries in war-torn areas and to be able to assist the wounded anywhere anytime or SMUs equipped with what is needed for the areas struck with a natural disasters like Tsunami’s or Earthquakes.
These SMUs has become a very important tool across the globe when assisting those who need it when their government cannot or do not want to help and outsiders like those mentioned above and others like The Red Cross, The Red Crescent or even the United Nations steps in to help.
There are those SMUs that are used in emergency cases as well in the normal modern cities of the first world as well, but they, in turn, become handy because of other problems the medical professional faces, problems like congestion caused by daily traffic or by a disaster like acts of terrorism.
Here we find more than medical SMUs but the rapid response SMUs used by police or other law enforcement agencies to help those in need and to help gather information and evidence to catch those responsible for these acts.
SO the SMUs have found a place in our modern world in more ways than one.
