The Peripatetics, the followers of Aristotle (384 – 322 BCE)were named because of their habit of walking around the colonnades of the Lyceum in Athens whereas on the other hand the Stoic philosophers were named painted porches or Athenian Stoa Poikile because of the painted roofed colonnade in which Zeno of Citium (344 – 262) held his classes

The Greeks, on the other hand, developed their Stoic philosophies from earlier structures which were divided into three parts:

LOGIC: a way in which to determine if your perception of the world is correct or not
PHYSICS: which mean the natural science of things – and this defined by both active, which is done by figuring out the reasons of existence, and passive, which defines the immutable and existence of life
ETHICS: how one lives their life and the consequences thereof

With very little of the original Stoic writings still existing the Romans adopted this way of living or art thereof (defined in ancient Greek as téchnê peri tón ion.
