The Sales Rep – The Core of Selling and Marketing
Any business, selling products or services, ultimately relies on its sales representative teams. Many companies are striving to make a mark in their trade and are struggling at the selling front. It does not matter how good or valuable a product or service is unless it translates to sales. It is the sales rep who is at the front selling, marketing, and promoting the business.
Companies rely on sales representatives for many tasks. These include selling retail products, advertising goods, and services to the clients. The sales representative reach to the target market and find out segments where they can sell a company’s service of a product. These sales representatives will work continuously to get new leads and convert a prospect into a client.
Commission Only Sales Reps – You Sell you Earn
The commission only model is an extension to the commission models that work in most companies. In many companies, the sales representatives are on salaries, as well as commissions that they get when they achieve a particular sales target. The commission-only model does not include any salary at all. It will translate to income that will come from direct sales. In other words, if a sales rep makes a sale, he too will make an earning, else the companies will not pay them anything.
So does commission-only Sales Rep make sense?
For highly-motivated and energetic sales representatives, a commission-only setup is encouraging as it allows them to make more money than they could have from regular jobs. These sales rep not only meet the target but exceed it with excellent margins, thus earning huge dividends. However, those sales rep who struggle to achieve a sales target or are relying on a steady kitchen income may not do well in the sales commission setting.
For hiring managers, it is challenging to find the right sales-reps who are willing and motivated to sell on commissions. The market is highly competitive, and the last thing an organization wants is to have a commission-only sales rep team that lacks the confidence and skills to make sales and rather disappear after a few months of not making any commissions.
All in all, a sales job where income comes from the commission-only sales rep is not for everyone. However, for talented and highly-motivated sales professionals, it is a lucrative opportunity to show their expertise, and bring considerable sales to a company. Not only these sales reps will earn more, but they would also find career transition to senior sales positions on salary plus commission.
