A virtual fitness trainer is a physical trainer who brings the gym (not literally) to your house. Most people are not gym lovers. They prefer working out from their house. However, finding the motivation or sustaining that motivation for training at home could be at times a chore. Fortunately, virtual fitness training comes to the rescue. To get started, all you require is a webcam, broadband Internet connection, and some valuable advice on how and where to start. The following are some tips that’ll help you find the right virtual fitness trainer.
Research
Make sure the trainer you choose is educated and experienced. This should apply to any kind of physical training you may be looking for. Ideally, the teacher must have been in the space for at least five years – a decade or more is ideal. And if the trainer was a professional dancer or athlete, it should add to their knowledge base.
You Must Be Comfortable
Make sure you are comfortable with the person who’ll train you over the Internet. To break the ice or create a level of comfort, get to know your potential virtual trainer. Ask for a brief session (less than 30 minutes) with the trainer if it’s your first time virtual training. If you do not feel comfortable during this short session, you may stop. Call your trainer on the phone. If you cannot, ascertain if the trainer is the right fit for your long-term fitness goal based on the initial experience you had with the trainer.
Communicate
As a trainee, you should be open with your trainer. If the workout is not enough or excessive, let the virtual trainer know that. Either way, you must be patient and work yourself into the training program.
Be Safe
Safety is a major concern. If your trainer isn’t the same country, state, or city as you, there isn’t much you could do if you get hurt during the training. The trainer should therefore know where you are located during a session. This is because if anything goes wrong, you should be locatable and able to receive help.
Set Clear Goals
Virtual fitness trainers like it when you are absolutely clear about your goals – with your potential trainer and yourself. If you are not very clear about your objectives, your trainer would have a hard time helping you achieve what you need.
Understand Your Motivation Levels
Know how much motivation and support you need. Virtual trainees usually come out happy from the training if they are self-motivated and can clearly communicate to the trainer the type of and amount of interaction they require from the trainer to remain on track. Virtual training would most likely not help if you require significant amount of hand-holding.
