As the ever-increasing number of professionals and doctors acclaim the medicinal benefits of CBD, people have finally come to accept it as a medicine. Although it is generally used as a pain reliever by professional athletes, some studies show that it is beneficial to use CBD for Cancer treatment. The studies are still ambiguous and require more research before we have conclusive evidence.
What is CBD?
First, let’s make something very clear, CBD and THC, although derived from the same family of plants, are two very different compounds. THC is the compound that induces a feeling of euphoria when it is ingested or smoked. CBD, on the other hand, has no such euphoric effects. CBD is used to give relief from pain and treat mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. While it has been used by people for some time now, it has been approved only recently.
Uses and Benefits of CBD for Treating Cancer
There are three ways CBD can be used in cancer treatment. It can be used as a treatment in itself, it can aid the orthodox treatments, or it can be used as a preventive measure.
Using CBD to Treat Cancer
There are some studies and evidence that show that CBD shrinks tumors and reduces cancer cell proliferation. Many studies conducted in this decade show that CBD is effective in treating certain types of cancer. CBD seems to be effective in inhibiting the growth of breast cancer cells. It is also evident that it can effectively kill some cancer cells without damaging any of the healthy cells in the body. But the inconclusive nature of these studies makes it difficult to suggest CBD as a definitive treatment for cancer.
Using CBD to Aid Conventional Treatment
CBD finds its best use as a complementary treatment. People that have undergone chemotherapy experience various side effects like nausea, loss of appetite, and debilitating pain. Taking small doses of CBD regularly improves the patient’s appetite, and significantly reduces vomiting. It is also used as a pain reliever to alleviate the pain that is associated with chemotherapy.
Using CBD for Cancer Prevention
CBD for Cancer, the smoke that is produced by marijuana is carcinogenic. On the contrary, ingesting CBD has no carcinogenic effect on the body. But its ability to prevent cancer is still up for debate. More studies are required to prove that taking CBD regularly can prevent the onset of cancer.
