Heavy Vehicle Regulations NZ are a set of land transport rules implemented by the transportation authority for the safety requirements and road protection of vehicles. The rules are applicable to all the heavy vehicle functioning in New Zealand and the transportation must adhere to the standards of the system and the rules when operating the vehicle on the road. In terms of measurement, any vehicle that has a mass of more than 3500 kilograms comes under the class of a heavy vehicle.
There are many sections to the regulations where the focus is on road safety for the transportation and other commuters around the vehicle. The basic regulation calls in for all mechanical safety checks of the vehicle including the functioning parts such as chassis and body of a vehicle, the load-bearing units, and an authenticated certificate of loading under the vehicle Compliance regulation. Heavy vehicles that transport steel, timber and other heavy materials use a cab-guard and if a heavy vehicle is missing a cab-guard it is not allowed on the road.
The regulation requires the vehicle to keep up adequate transmission power as mentioned in the vehicle manual. The axles are the important part of the vehicle and they should have enough strength and fitted to the vehicle properly.
All the electronic components of the car must adhere to all safety practices. It is in the jurisdiction of the road authority to call in a heavy vehicle for full electronic checking. If the electronics of the vehicle fails during the routine check fines and vehicle permits are held or the vehicle might be towed away. The road rules are strict for the heavy vehicles and small electrical malfunctions are not something to overlook to avoid road problems and penalties.
All vehicles that are operative on the road and carrying heavy loads must adhere to all the safety regulations. There are many sections to the Heavy Vehicle acts and all transportation companies must read each section of vehicle compliance and learn to carry out all safety requirements. The regulations call in for several certifications and vehicles must hold all these certifications and renew them before expiry. For uninterrupted road operations, owners of heavy vehicles are responsible to carry regular repair and maintenance of the transportation. This includes a self-test of all vehicles part and part to assess if there is any need to replace the part or fix a broken one.
