The next assignment should be specific enough to complete on an ordinary weekday. It could involve playing four measures without stopping, clapping a rhythm before strumming, or changing between two shapes while keeping the beat audible.
Recitals and informal performances can give practice a real deadline, but preparation should match the student’s level rather than turn every mistake into a crisis.
At home, a parent can protect a regular practice time, check the assignment, and ask the player to demonstrate the target once. Correcting every note from across the room usually adds tension; helping the student return to the agreed exercise is more productive.
